In terms of individual nations, China was the world’s largest FDI recipient in 2020, with flows rising by 4% to $163 billion. High-tech industries saw an increase of 11% in the same year.

Under the “dual circulation” strategy of the government’s 14th five-year plan (2021-2025), China aims to boost tech innovation and push firms up the global value chain, boost household incomes, and in turn, stimulating domestic demand.
